SimGuruNick, who works as a quality designer on the team, confirmed that the changes were by design and not a bug. I think the Fountain of Youth from Hidden Springs (it's a Store town) does something similar, but haven't messed with it since there are other ways that get me to the same result. For a Long Lifespan, its 88 days each instead of 96. Drink it and it will put your Sim back at Day 1 of being a Young Adult without having to go through the Create-a-Sim stuff. If you have Supernatural installed, you could also visit the Elixir shop and purchase a Fountain of Youth elixir. It is important to note that chickens are not immortal and they will pass away eventually, if you want to extend their life span you can always give them some healthy treats to help give them a few extra days before the Grim Reaper comes and does this adorably tragic animation that will break your heart. It does the same thing (click the sim -> NRaas -> Master Controller -> Advanced -> Edit in CAS), but MC's CAS is less prone to corrupting your game than the developer console version.

I prefer to use the Master Controller mod with the Cheats add-on. My desired value - something around 120 - 150 - 200 days of adult life. Save before doing it and make a new save immediately after doing it (Save As.). Unlike previous versions of the game, you won’t be shown how many days the elder sim has until they die, you’ll only be shown how long they have been alive. Change it to Young Adult or Adult and accept the change to return to the game. If you’re playing the Sims 4 with a normal lifespan, your sim will become an elder on day 100 of their life. Sims go through various states from baby, on to todder, childhood, through the teenage years, and finally young adulthood. Added Lifespan Adjustment warning notifications for Overweight, Underweight. On the Basics tab, you'll see that Elder is highlighted for the age. The goal of this mod pack is to rework the Health system of the Sims 4.
